The Nelson marque is admired by just about everyone who goes to sea, but it is fair to say these boats have always had shortcomings for leisure users.

Their long, thin, railway carriage-shaped interiors have meant that thei accommodation could be predictable and somewaht cramped for a given size of vessel. And, with Nelsons being mopulded and fitted out as one-offs by a variety of yards, with customised interiors, prices have tended to be way above those of production cruisers.

Recently, however, both these problems have been addressed in a way that might attract the interest of more buyers.

Firstly, the hulls have been given a wider beam, opening up the possibility of more sociable interior layouts. Secondly, Milford Haven-based Dale Sailing have been granted sole rights to build the Nelson 38...
